Letter

In each letter I write
The past crawls to today
And I seek to have the past
When the past is the past
And today is today

Look

When walking
Look ahead
When running
Look beyond
When resting
Look within

Wet

I dance with her
In undulating waves
Before taking flight
To glide above the meadows
Until the plunge
Which leaves me wet and trembling

Molten

Molten hills light the night sky
Pouring the soul of the earth into the ocean
Which listens until it can take no more

Arrogance

The arrogance of youth
Married the hubris of ego
To begat days of toil
For questionable reward

Fleeting

This life drags on
When it goes by so fast
In its infinite fleeting moments
Stacked like dust
Fallen from stars
That become eternal oceans
Destined to boil away
Sail across the gulf
And land on another rock
For others to swim in

Souls

Far shores whisper to me
On gentle breezes
Carried across the oceans
To be caught by my nose
And played within my head

These yarns of derring-do
Of men driven to madness
In clothing ridiculous
Under baking suns
And lost to the world
As they dig for their own souls
Buried in treasure chests
Hidden by others
When they were but pups
Leave me wondering

If their eternal rest
Rattling in chains like wind chimess
As they sink further back in time
Will wait for future hunters
Of others’ misfortune
Or if they will pick the locks
And take back what is theirs
