Fossils

Every family object that has come to me
Weighs me down with its history
Each compresses me into a layer
The model wooden boats from Portugal
The ornaments from New York
The photograph of a tree
Each thing in its place
Each thing in its time
My fossils will join this sediment until upheaval
To tumble towards shores from snowy mountaintops
Or dive below to burning depths
For a slow glide through the crystal lattice
Yet before I freeze upon this earthly plane
My fires reap what they have sown
Growths anew cracked from hardened shell
Marking time’s passing riotous again
After journey’s slog through choking ash
Of life a burnt beneath torrents of tears

Learn

When you can fall no further
Stay down
Or learn to float

Towels

Those damn towels
Pile to the sky like a mountain
So let us rope together
Check our knots and carabiners
And ascend skyward
Until we are fully folded together
From sweaty exhaustion
Until the next peak

Pain

When the cup of shared pain
Overflows upon the floor
Laugh
Laugh that you can still laugh
As it pours and pours and pours
Drowning you
Laugh as you swim in pain
Be a dolphin and breech the waves
In the sparkling sun
Laugh
Laugh with the pain
Because that’s what you do
With your best friend

Rooms

In those rooms
The world slipped past
As it reeled within
The small confines
With no escape

Craps

Every time
A croupier yells
“Coming out!”
On the roll of the dice
A trans girl
Gets her boobs

Whirl

Deep within
There is a place
Tranquil and fine
Where the world cannot reach

Mountains support the sky
The sky hugs the ocean
The ocean snuggles the land
The land embraces me

There is no better cradle
Except your arms
Holding me fast from toppling
While stars whirl with the moon
